Visakhapatnam port handled its highest-ever monthly container volume in September, officials said, driven by a rise in electronics and pharmaceutical exports from the region.
Port officials credited new berths and faster customs clearance for the growth. Transport operators said waiting times for trucks outside the port had come down noticeably.
Trade bodies have asked for better road and rail links to the port so the growth can be sustained through the winter shipping season.
